Hello and welcome to Shay Doyle Art. I specialize in alcohol ink art, which is a type of fluid paint that creates vibrant and unpredictable effects on various surfaces. I fell in love with Alcohol Ink because of the vibrant colours and the unpredictability of the inks. In this blog, I share my journey, inspirations, and art.
Today I would like to share with you some of my favorite art pieces that I am most proud of. The pieces that I am sharing with you all represent a milestone in my art journey. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
1. Lady in the Blue Dress
This was my first Happy Accident, as Bob Ross once coined the term. Initially, I was attempting to practice and paint a flower when the layers of ink overlapping started to create the illusion of a corset and ruffled skirt. To my amazement, a ghostly woman suddenly appeared in the painting. I was stunned at the mystery and beauty that randomly appeared.
2. Mindbender
Another Happy Accident, where I initially attempted an abstract bubble design, but as I laid down the inks a woman’s chin, lips and nose suddenly appeared and became the focal point of this painting. Carefully I laid the inks in such a way as to keep the facial feature intact while using the fluidity of the blue inks to signify that her head was open to the clouds and sky above. In all reality, Mindbender captivates what my art journey has been like for me and that through art and Alcohol Inks I have changed my frame of mind over the last few years.
3. Misty Mountains
Here’s the thing about Alcohol Inks…they have a mind of their own and they are not easy to control. So, while I have seen some beautiful Alcohol Ink landscapes, I was struggling to create a beautiful landscape myself. I tried, then I tried again, and again. And then, I finally was able to create Misty Mountain. It was the first painting my best friend said that she wanted a copy of, and for that reason alone it must make it into my top 5 favourites.
4. Rooted
This painting was so unexpected. I had no plan when I started dropping the ink on my paper. I was just in the mood to paint, so I painted. What began as just a line across my page somehow turned into this wonderfully magical scene and when I finished, I put my page down and felt like I came out of a creative trans of some sort. I titled it Rooted because of how this painting and my art make me feel, connected to the present, to the here and now, grounded to my body and the earth.
5. Inukshuk at Fisherman's Cove
This painting is particularly special to me. It was inspired by a family outing to Fisherman's Cove, which is located in Eastern Passage, NS. This year we moved to Nova Scotia and spent a day exploring the eastern shore and this small fishing village. It has the cutest market and nice walking path to watch the tide come in and out. My husband and kids were skipping rocks off the shore while I was searched for sea glass and stumbled upon this Inukshuk.
6. Flower Power
Last, but not least, is my husband's favourite. I don’t have a particularly easy time painting flowers, they never seem flowery enough for me or something. So, of my many attempts to paint a flower, this one just seemed to fit the bill and has been coined as my husband’s favourite. The vibrant reds to dark maroons, with a touch of gold in the center make this flower painting a showstopping piece that captivates viewers.
The paintings I shared above are sentimental to me, so I am therefore biased and will always favour them. Check out my online I would love to hear which pieces you like best and which painting resonates with you. Do you have a blank wall that needs some interest and a pop of colour? I hope you learned something new about me and my art. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them below. I would love to hear, which one is your favourite.
